A Certificate of Realness is an official document issued with limited edition artworks made by Studio Daly. Its purpose is to confirm that the artwork it is associated with was made by Studio Daly. Similar to how a passport functions, it is a unique document that is only valid when associated to a specific piece of art. A Certificate of Realness is complex in its design and difficult to forge, to ensure its legitimacy. 

We made an educational film explaining 6 of the 9 security features that a Certificate of Realness contains, so that owners of limited edition artworks could authenticate their artworks. However, the film led some people to contact the studio asking whether they could purchase a certificate on its own, as a piece of “art”. We explained that a Certificate of Realness is inherently worthless without being connected to a specific piece of art. We explained that they are intended for authentication purposes only. We explained that they are not for sale. 

Despite our explanations, there have since been many attempts to steal them from our armed courier while in transit. Although we do not condone heists of any kind, our armed courier’s safety is our primary concern. To put a stop to the attempts at theft, we have decided to release a print that has the sole purpose of allowing people to “buy” a Certificate of Realness. The limited edition print, which is a copy of the technical plans that we use to create the Certificate of Realness, is provided with a physical Certificate of Realness. The print explains the security features and can therefore be used to authenticate the physical Certificate of Realness, which has been provided to authenticate the print.

Please stop trying to intercept our armed courier, he doesn’t handle conflict that well.
